OUR STORY

What started as a small hobby in November 2022, when RC enthusiasts Neo Wu and Adrian Ng realized the lack of affordable yet large-scale, advanced composite RC airliners, quickly turned into something much bigger. Unable to find a solution that met their needs, they decided to build it themselves, founding NWAD-Hobby as a small business focused on designing high-quality RC airliners.

As their passion for aerospace and innovation grew, they shifted their focus to create the NWAD Aerospace Club, Hong Kong's first student-led aerospace club. Today, the club has become the main focus of their efforts, dedicated to hands-on learning and pushing the boundaries of aerospace technology. The club specializes in designing advanced RC airliners using composite materials and exploring hybrid rocket propulsion, all while gaining invaluable experience throughout the process.

While our products are not yet on the market, we offer design files and manuals for customers to build the RC airliners themselves. In doing so, we not only make aerospace accessible but also continue to learn and grow through every project.

As a small, student-led community, we welcome new members to join our events, participate in exciting projects, and contribute to advancing the future of aerospace exploration. Interested individuals are invited to attend a free meeting to experience the club and its activities before committing to membership.

WHERE IT ALL STARTED

Neo and Adrian rented a 300 square feet workshop near their school in Aberdeen, Hong Kong, to work on their ambitious projects after school every day. The space served as both a hangout spot and a dedicated area where they tirelessly worked to design and build their RC planes. However, the workshop came with its challenges—poor airflow caused malfunctions in the 3D printing equipment, and the lack of proper temperature regulation made the molding process for their designs even more difficult. Despite these obstacles, the workshop was where they pushed through, learning and growing every step of the way.

The images were taken in 2022, shortly after they moved in and built their workbench. It was a time filled with fun, creativity, and hard work. They made great memories there, even though the conditions were far from ideal. It was in this very workshop that they built the first prototype fuselage of their 787-9 RC airliner. The process was tough, taking them six months just to mold and assemble the parts, but it marked a pivotal step in their journey.

Funding for the project came from their pocket money, and they also received help from classmates and friends—many of whom are now active members of the NWAD Aerospace Club. Together, they faced challenges head-on and built something truly special.

These images showcase the first prototypes for the molds of the 787-9 composite outer shell, created using our very first 3D printer. The process took a lot of trial and error, requiring extensive setup, redesigning, and fine-tuning to perfect the final mold. Every detail had to be meticulously adjusted to ensure the best possible result. Additionally, we had to experiment with different mixtures of mold release wax and epoxy to achieve the ideal bonding ratio for optimal performance. It was a challenging yet rewarding step in the development of our project.

NAME & LOGO

Original on transparent.png

The design of the NWAD-Hobby logo was carefully thought out to reflect both the essence of the brand and its founders. The name "NWAD" has a dual meaning—representing the initials of Neo Wu and Adrian Ng, as well as standing for Neo Wu Aerospace Development, tying the brand closely to their vision for innovation in aerospace.

The color scheme of orange and white was chosen for its vibrant and energetic feel, symbolizing creativity, passion, and the drive to push the boundaries of aerospace technology. Orange evokes energy and enthusiasm, while white represents clarity and precision, which are fundamental to the high standards of their projects.

The two dashes on the logo have a deeper meaning as well. They represent forward momentum and the continuous journey of progress and development within the aerospace field. These dashes emphasize the club's forward-thinking approach and the drive to innovate, explore, and achieve new heights in aerospace technology.
